Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS)

The Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program assists families to achieve economic independence through education and savings. Families work with a case manager to develop financial goals that will help lead to self-sufficiency.

Participation is voluntary for families in the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program.

Success Stories

Rashada Myles joined the FSS program in 2021 with the goals to further her education and prepare for homeownership. While working toward her goals diligently she went back to school and earned her State Board for Educator Certification.

She did not stop there; she kept working hard towards her goal to eventually purchase her own home and transition out of rental housing. Furthermore, she attended training classes and workshops to gain better comprehension of her financial status.  To her surprise; she discovered she qualified to purchase a home. Because of Ms. Myles's FSS participation, she is a new homeowner and a stake holder in the community.  She will use her escrow disbursement for her new home related expenses.

Ms. Myles states, "I truly appreciate the time and opportunity Baytown Housing has given me. It was a positive experience, and I am grateful."
